Regular Vet Checks

A Worry Free, Happy Boxer Owner!
A yearly visit to the vet should be part of a good Boxer Dog health care routine. Older Boxer Dogs, or those with known health conditions, may need to be seen more frequently to ensure that the vet stays on top of any changes in overall health. A regular veterinary visit will help identify any possible issues and concerns, plus it will keep your Boxer up to date on vaccinations and boosters. The regular vet check will usually include a weight check, temperature check, heart rate and lung check with a stethoscope, palpitation of the stomach and abdomen, as well as examination of the mouth, nose, eyes and ears…
Diarrhea… is a watery, frequent bowel movement caused by a multitude of things. If your Staffordshire has occasional diarrhea but seems bright and healthy, you probably do not need to worry. The next time your Boxer Dog is having problems, you will be armed with all the latest information in how to determine how sever the problem may be, or, if it’s just a regular, natural occurrence. This can save you hundreds in vet bills! or simply give you peace of mind with less stress.
Vomiting…is a common occurrence and your Staffordshire can throw up water, food or even bile. You may not see your pet vomit but find their vomit on the floor. Get to the root of the problem quickly again peace of mind is key here.
Bad Breath… One of the most common causes of bad breath in a Boxer Dog is dental problems. If left untreated the problem may become expensive and troublesome for your Boxer.
Hip dysplasia... is a degenerative joint disease that is common in Boxers. Caused by hip joint looseness, it creates abnormal erosion and wear on the hip joint and arthritis sets in. Be prepared. Learn what to look for and what to avoid. Again an expensive condition with lots of heartache if left too late
Canine Arthritis... Many canines suffer from arthritis; however, it is especially common in older Boxer Dogs. There are several types of canine arthritis, but the most common form is osteoarthritis. Arthritis breaks down and wears away the joint cartilage that covers and protects the bone. With this buffer gone, some bones come in direct contact, causing pain. Learn what to do to reduce the chances of your Boxer suffering this degenerative disease… again avoiding much heartache.
Ear infections... are a common health problem in Boxer Dogs but fortunately, owners can often treat or prevent reoccurring infections saving money with unnecessary trips to the vet reducing stress for your Boxer.
Eye infections…Like our eyes, a Boxer’s eyes are very sensitive, but unlike us, they cannot keep their eyes healthy and clean effectively. Eye infections in Boxer’s can occur any time, so it is your responsibility to check their eyes for signs of infection or injury. Know the signs, look for them and have them treated immediately, your Boxer will appreciate it.
Constipation…Although most Boxer’s have one or two bouts of constipation during their life, it is not normal to have recurring constipation problems. If this happens to your Boxer, you need to find the underlying cause. When a Boxer has prolonged constipation, it often causes serious gastrointestinal problems such as mega-colon, which is an abnormal enlargement of the colon. Often a simple dietary change will save your Boxer from this discomfort or will avoid the pain altogether with the right diet.
Heatstroke…Unlike humans, Boxer Dogs do not have sweat glands, so their cooling system is their paw pads, tongue and nose. When a Boxer cannot maintain its normal body temperature due to excessive heat or high humidity, they can collapse from heatstroke, which is often fatal. Recently Ella, our 12 year old hid in our car and got shut in by accident on one of the hottest days of the year. What to do in this e-book definitely saved her life and thankfully she is still with us now. Dogs DIE from Heatstroke! Don’t suffer the pain of this needless loss. Know the signs. Know what to do.
The Boxer has a long and well earned reputation for being a hearty and reliable breed. However, with thousands of years of evolution behind the canine species, it is only natural for every Boxer breed to have some sort of genetic default in its bloodline. While some arise as basic abnormalities, many of these problems can arise for a vast number of other reasons. In many cases, it stems from faulty breeding practices somewhere in the bloodline, an issue that the Boxer has already faced once before. For the most part, it is the sensible breeder, the true enthusiast, who adheres to the strictest of standards when breeding certain bloodlines of Boxer.
